In Taros, there are seven main races:
~Humans
~Elves
~Dwarves
**Limited Races.**
1- Fëanturi: People blessed with the ability to turn into animals.
2- Athan: Alchemists, of a sort.
3- Shapeshifters: Change form to certain animal.
4- Ruindil: 'Flame-walkers.'
5- Wizard: Semi-self explanatory, but think Gandalf.
Must apply to staff for permission before making character bio for a limited race.

Fëanturi
The Fëanturi are a race consisting of elves and humans who have been given the ability to change into an animal. The first of the Fëanturi was an elf by the name of Giliath. He asked Eru, the Father of All, for the ability to share in the Hawk's graceful flight. As word of this reached the other elves, others began to ask for this wish. The elf took the name of the creature with which he was joined, and he became the first Hawk; the Hawk clan became the royal family of the Fëanturi. The Hawk's closest friend gained the gift of becoming a Panther, the first of the royal guard.
For three centuries, the only Fëanturi were elves, but only the first member of each clan kept the immortality of their race. Because of the fact that the Fëanturi have lost their elven immortality, the elves do not recognize the elven Fëanturi as being true elves. As such, the Fëanturi were banned from entering the land of the elves. Each descendent gained the Gift of Men, death, either aging as humans, or as the Dúnedain, some of whom lived to be over two hundred years old, of Tolkien's Middle-earth. Just over two centuries after the first hawk gained the gift of flight, the first human Fëanturi came into existence as a Cougar. The only two clans that remain strictly elven are Hawk and Panther.
Each Fëanturi wears a pendant with the clan symbol on it. The pendant is colored depending on the class: Sapphire for birds; Emerald for Felines; Ruby for Canines; Jet for Snakes; Amethyst for all others. Over the centuries, the clans developed certain abilities and occupations that revolve around those abilities. Although a few of the gifts have been discovered, many of the talents have yet to be revealed.

Shapeshifter
Shapeshifters arose near the same time as the Fëanturi. The first shapeshifter was an elf who took the name of Lyall on learning that he could change into a wolf. Shapeshifters are either elf or human, and they have the lifespan of their race. Even though elves are immortal, very few elven shapeshifters live to be over three centuries old. Lyall, however is over four hundred years old, not counting before his first change.
The shapeshifters are not shunned by the elves as the Fëanturi are, but they choose to leave the elves, living just with other shapeshifters. They lived for a time along the edge of Darkwood then crossed Fade-away River and entered Forest Realm. For the most part, they stay to the eastern border away from other races. However, when they travel, they often do so in animal form as they can move quicker than they can following roads. A few shapeshifters take to the roads to gather information, but most citizens of Taros either think shapeshifters to be mere legends, or fear shapeshifters because of their differences.
The shapeshifters are often recognized by Fëanturi, elves, and Rangers. The only magic shapeshifters are said to possess is the ability to control nature, to a small extent, and to a greater extent, the ability to read both stars and people.
Shapeshifters cannot combine race. This means that a wolf shapeshifter would have wolf kids, but a snake shapeshifter and a wolf shapeshifter cannot have tiger kids. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but still. Like breeds like.

Ruindil
In the desert to the south of Fire Realm, a race was born that was named Ruindil by the elves. Consisting only of humans, the Ruindil are a rather short-lived race compared to the Fëanturi and the Athan; all three races were formed near the same time. The first Ruindil was a man named Sean. The Ruindil were gifted with the ability to control fire, but only if there is a flame available for them to manipulate. Each Ruindil can control fire to some extent, but only a few actually receive training.
Those who are chosen for training start at age fifteen, and are taught everything from simple manipulations of fire to traveling through a burst of flames. After five years, those who complete training are provided with a pair of gloves made of a rare material known as flint cloth. With the right amount of friction, flint cloth produces a spark which they can then bend to their will. Even with such great skill, the Ruindil lack the ability to heal through magic, and their normal healers are only capable of minor works.
Ruindil occasionally cross the border into Fire Realm because of the low population, but few can travel beyond Fire Realm because they can only teleport themselves if they know either where they are trying to go, or who they want to get to. They need to be able to picture their destination. The flame color is unique to each Ruindil, ranging from orange to white to green to purple.

Athan
The Athan are the only race that consists of humans, elves, and dwarves. The first Athan was a dwarf by the name of Garrett. Garrett was in the mines when there was a collapse. Other dwarves were trapped under debris, but Garrett was able to free them with a newfound ability: He could extract things, and people, from solid rock without harming anything, or anyone. Humans, elves, and other dwarves began to develop their own talents. Some could control metal, others could do such things as communicating with other people through minds, or even erasing someone's memory of certain things. One thing that most Athan could do, although some were better skilled than others, is mend bones. The bones are not healed instantly, but a method of wrapping them provides full mobility, and a healing time that is about four times quicker than normal.
The full-blooded Athan have a band of gold pigment circling the color of their eyes, and a band of silver circling the pupil. Less-than-full-blooded Athan males do not have marked eyes; females have two silver bands instead of one gold, one silver. Females, full-blooded or not, can hide the marking. Whatever ability is possessed by one Athan is passed on to descendents, which means that decendents of more than one full-blooded Athan can have more than one ability. The strength of the skill remains equal until three generations after full-blood. That means that half-Athan and quarter-Athan possess the same strength as an Athan.
Note: If you wish to be an Athan, please include which ability you would like to have. It is possible that it may not be an ability that is allowed, but it can’t hurt to ask.
